Drug intelligence / Profile preview
AM240 (also known as AMR102) is a fixed-dose combination drug candidate developed by Amarin Corporation. It consists of icosapent ethyl, a high-purity ethyl ester of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), and atorvastatin, a HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin). The "MCR" designation likely refers to a modified-release or multi-component release formulation designed to optimize the delivery of both active ingredients. Icosapent ethyl works by reducing hepatic very-low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (VLDL-C) synthesis and enhancing triglyceride clearance from circulating VLDL particles, while atorvastatin inhibits the rate-limiting enzyme in cholesterol biosynthesis, thereby reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). The combination is intended for the treatment of patients with mixed dyslipidemia, aiming to simultaneously manage elevated triglyceride levels and LDL cholesterol to reduce overall cardiovascular risk.
