Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This multi-agent chemotherapy regimen serves as the standard-of-care backbone in clinical trials conducted by the German-Austrian AML Study Group (AMLSG), specifically at the University of Ulm. It is primarily utilized for the treatment of adult patients with nucleophosmin-1 (NPM1)-mutated acute myeloid leukemia (AML). The regimen consists of an induction and consolidation phase featuring the antimetabolite cytarabine, the anthracycline idarubicin, and the topoisomerase II inhibitor etoposide (collectively known as the ICE regimen). This is supplemented with all-trans retinoic acid (ATRA/tretinoin), which acts as a differentiating agent to promote the maturation of leukemic blasts, and pegfilgrastim, a long-acting granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) used to accelerate myeloid recovery and reduce the duration of neutropenia.
