Overview

Ifosfamide + etoposide is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two cytotoxic agents—ifosfamide, an alkylating agent, and etoposide (also known as VP-16), a topoisomerase II inhibitor. This combination is commonly referred to as "IE" or the "IE regimen." It is primarily used in the treatment of various malignant solid tumors in both pediatric and adult populations, including relapsed or refractory osteosarcoma and Ewing sarcoma. The drugs act synergistically to inhibit cancer cell proliferation by causing DNA damage (ifosfamide) and preventing DNA repair/replication (etoposide). Mesna is often co-administered for uroprotection against ifosfamide-induced hemorrhagic cystitis[2][3][7][8].
