Overview

IMED is a chemotherapy regimen that combines four distinct agents: Ifosfamide, Methotrexate, Etoposide, and Dexamethasone. Ifosfamide is an alkylating agent that damages DNA, while Methotrexate is an antimetabolite that inhibits DNA and RNA synthesis. Etoposide acts as a topoisomerase II inhibitor, causing DNA strand breaks. Dexamethasone, a corticosteroid, provides anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive effects, and can induce apoptosis in lymphoid cells. This combination is used in oncology, particularly in the treatment of lymphomas, by targeting rapidly dividing cancer cells through multiple mechanisms to inhibit their growth and promote cell death.
