Overview

Ifosfamide + mitoxantrone is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of two cytotoxic agents, ifosfamide and mitoxantrone. Ifosfamide is an alkylating agent of the oxazaphosphorine class, structurally related to cyclophosphamide, and acts by cross-linking DNA strands to inhibit cancer cell replication. Mitoxantrone is an anthracenedione antineoplastic agent that intercalates into DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, leading to DNA strand breaks and apoptosis in rapidly dividing cells. This combination has been studied primarily for the treatment of relapsed or refractory non-Hodgkin's lymphoma as part of multi-drug regimens such as MINE (mesna/ifosfamide, mitoxantrone, etoposide), where it has shown moderate response rates in heavily pretreated patients[1][4][5]. The regimen may be used with other agents depending on protocol.
