Overview

This is a combination chemotherapy regimen consisting of three drugs: - **Ifosfamide** is an alkylating agent that exerts its anti-cancer effect by causing DNA cross-linking and damage, leading to cell death. It is used in the treatment of various cancers, including lung cancer, sarcomas, and lymphomas[3][4]. - **Verapamil** is a calcium channel blocker primarily used for cardiovascular conditions but also acts as a chemosensitizer. In oncology regimens, it inhibits P-glycoprotein (P-gp), thereby reversing multidrug resistance in tumor cells and enhancing the efficacy of chemotherapeutic agents like vindesine[1][8]. - **Vindesine** is a vinca alkaloid that inhibits microtubule formation by binding to tubulin beta-1 chain, arresting cells in metaphase during mitosis. It is mainly indicated for acute lymphocytic leukemia and non-small cell lung cancer[5]. The combination has been studied particularly in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), where verapamil was added to sensitize tumors resistant to chemotherapy by inhibiting drug efflux mechanisms[1]. The regimen aims to maximize cytotoxicity against tumor cells while overcoming resistance.
