IL-4 + IFN-γ is a combination of two recombinant cytokines—interleukin 4 (IL-4) and interferon gamma (IFN-γ)—used primarily in research settings to study immune modulation. Both are key immunoregulatory proteins with distinct but sometimes overlapping roles in the immune system. IL-4 is mainly associated with promoting humoral immunity, B cell differentiation, and anti-inflammatory responses, while IFN-γ is central to cell-mediated immunity and antiviral defense. When used together, these cytokines can have complex effects on immune cells such as dendritic cells and B cells; they may act synergistically or antagonistically depending on context. For example, their combination can induce unique gene expression profiles in dendritic cells[1], modulate B cell proliferation and antibody class switching[5], or influence T-cell activation. This combination has been explored experimentally for its potential to modulate immune responses in diseases like cancer[4] or viral infections but does not have an established clinical use as a marketed pharmaceutical product.
