Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Iloprost + normal saline refers to a formulation in which the synthetic prostacyclin analog iloprost is diluted with normal saline (0.9% sodium chloride solution) for intravenous infusion or inhalation. Iloprost acts as a potent vasodilator and inhibitor of platelet aggregation, mimicking the effects of endogenous prostacyclin (PGI2). It is primarily used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and severe frostbite, improving exercise tolerance and reducing the risk of amputation by dilating blood vessels, inhibiting platelet aggregation, and providing cytoprotective effects. Normal saline serves as an inert vehicle for dilution and administration but does not contribute pharmacological activity[1][5].
