Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A combination therapy consisting of imatinib mesylate, a selective tyrosine kinase inhibitor targeting PDGFR, c-KIT, and Bcr-Abl fusion protein, administered together with temozolomide, an alkylating agent. This combination has been investigated in clinical trials for malignant gliomas and melanoma. The rationale for combining these agents is based on imatinib's ability to inhibit growth factor receptors that may be overexpressed in certain tumors, potentially enhancing the cytotoxic effects of temozolomide.
