IMC-003 (also known as IMM72) is a genetically modified, next-generation activin receptor IIA-Fc (ActRIIA-Fc) fusion protein developed by ImmuneOnco Biopharmaceuticals and its subsidiary ImmuneCare Biopharmaceuticals. It functions as a biologic ligand trap targeting the Activin A Receptor Type 2A (ACVR2A), thereby inhibiting the TGF-β superfamily signaling pathways involved in pathological vascular remodeling. IMC-003 is primarily being developed for the treatment of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) and obesity. In clinical trials for PAH, it is administered as an add-on to stable background therapy, which refers to the patient's existing regimen of standard-of-care PAH medications such as phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors, endothelin receptor antagonists (ERAs), or prostacyclin analogues. The drug aims to restore balance in the BMPR2/activin signaling pathway to reverse pulmonary vascular remodeling.
