Overview

Imiquimod + nab-paclitaxel is a combination therapy consisting of topical imiquimod (a 5% cream) and systemic nanoparticle albumin-bound paclitaxel (nab-paclitaxel). Imiquimod is a synthetic immune response modifier that acts as an agonist of toll-like receptor 7 (TLR-7), stimulating innate and adaptive immune responses, including the activation of CD8+ T cells and production of interferon-gamma. Nab-paclitaxel is a chemotherapeutic agent where paclitaxel is bound to albumin nanoparticles, enhancing its delivery to tumors; it disrupts microtubule function leading to cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in cancer cells. This combination has been investigated primarily for treatment-refractory cutaneous metastases from breast cancer, aiming to leverage both direct cytotoxic effects and immunomodulation for improved tumor regression[1][3][4].
