Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Imiquimod + surgery is a combination therapeutic approach where topical imiquimod cream is used either before or after surgical excision. This approach is particularly useful for treating certain skin conditions where surgery alone may not completely remove the disease or where there are positive margins after excision. Imiquimod works as an immune response modifier that activates toll-like receptor 7, stimulating the innate and adaptive immune responses. This leads to the production of various cytokines such as interferon-alpha, interferon-gamma, tumor necrosis factor-alpha, and interleukins, which help fight viruses and destroy cancer cells.
