Overview

A combination therapy consisting of the drug class of immune checkpoint inhibitors and Iscador® Qu, a branded extract of mistletoe (Viscum album). [4-1, 4-3, 4-4, 11] Immune checkpoint inhibitors are biologic monoclonal antibodies that block proteins like PD-1, PD-L1, or CTLA-4, thereby enhancing the immune system's ability to attack cancer cells. Iscador® Qu is a fermented aqueous extract from mistletoe grown on oak trees. [4-8, 13, 15] A clinical study sponsored by the University Hospital Basel is evaluating the safety and efficacy of adding Iscador® Qu to standard immune checkpoint inhibitor treatment for patients with locally advanced, recurrent, or metastatic cancers. The study aims to determine if the combination modulates the adaptive immune response and improves treatment outcomes compared to checkpoint inhibitors alone. [4-1, 4-3, 4-4, 4-8, 4-9]
