Overview

Immune globulin intravenous, human-slra (Asceniv) is a 10% immune globulin liquid preparation for intravenous injection. It is a plasma-derived polyclonal immunoglobulin product that contains antibodies to strengthen the immune system. The product is unique in that it is manufactured using patented methodologies for donor screening and plasma pooling, specifically blending respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) plasma from donors with elevated antibody levels for certain respiratory pathogens with normal source plasma[2][3]. This provides a broad spectrum of neutralizing IgG antibodies against bacterial and viral pathogens and their toxins[2]. The mechanism of action involves providing passive immunity by supplying exogenous immunoglobulin G antibodies to patients with humoral immunodeficiency, thereby reducing the risk of infections. Developed and manufactured by ADMA Biologics, the product received FDA approval in 2019[8]. It is indicated for the treatment of primary humoral immunodeficiency in adults and adolescents aged 12 to 17 years[1][2].
