A Vero cell-derived inactivated influenza vaccine is produced by propagating influenza viruses in Vero cells (a continuous cell line of mammalian origin) and inactivating the harvested virus. The vaccine may contain whole virion or split virus formulations, including both pandemic (H1N1, H5N1) and seasonal (trivalent) types. It induces protective immunity by stimulating the immune system to generate antibodies against viral antigens (such as hemagglutinin), blocking infection by the influenza virus. Some products have included an adjuvant (e.g., aluminum hydroxide) to potentially enhance immunogenicity, though this may increase local reactogenicity. The modality provides an alternative to traditional egg-based vaccines and mitigates some egg allergy concerns. Main indications are influenza (seasonal and pandemic) prophylaxis in healthy individuals[1][2][3][4].
