Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (Salk-based), also known as cIPV or Salk vaccine, is a pharmaceutical vaccine developed by Dr. Jonas Salk in 1955. It consists of inactivated (killed) poliovirus strains of all three poliovirus types (1, 2, and 3). The vaccine works by stimulating the body's immune system to produce antibodies against the poliovirus, which prevents the virus from spreading to the central nervous system and protects against paralytic poliomyelitis. It is administered via intramuscular injection.
