Overview

This combination refers to a vaccination regimen evaluated in a Phase IV clinical trial (NCT03332732) led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The regimen consists of the standard Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (IPV), a fractional dose of the Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine (fIPV) delivered intradermally as a booster, and the Rotarix rotavirus vaccine. IPV and fIPV provide active immunity against poliomyelitis by inducing neutralizing antibodies to poliovirus types 1, 2, and 3. Rotarix is a live-attenuated monovalent human rotavirus vaccine (strain RIX4414) designed to prevent gastroenteritis caused by rotavirus. The study specifically investigates the immunogenicity and optimization of polio vaccination schedules, including dose-sparing fractional doses, when administered concomitantly with rotavirus vaccines in infants.
