A combination vaccine composed of an inactivated SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19) vaccine and a quadrivalent influenza vaccine. The inactivated SARS-CoV-2 component is designed to induce immunity against the coronavirus responsible for COVID-19, while the quadrivalent influenza component targets two strains of influenza A and two strains of influenza B viruses. The mechanism of action involves stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against both SARS-CoV-2 and seasonal flu viruses, thereby providing protection against both diseases. This type of combination aims to simplify immunization schedules, improve compliance, and broaden protection during respiratory virus seasons. Several companies are developing such combination vaccines using different platforms (e.g., mRNA-based or protein-based), but "inactivated" refers specifically to vaccines where viral particles have been killed so they cannot cause disease but still elicit an immune response.
