Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Indapamide + losartan is a fixed-dose combination of two antihypertensive agents used to treat high blood pressure. Indapamide is a thiazide-like diuretic that acts on the distal convoluted tubule in the nephron, inhibiting the Na+/Cl- cotransporter and reducing sodium reabsorption, which leads to increased excretion of sodium and water, decreased plasma volume, and lower blood pressure[3]. Losartan is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that selectively blocks the type 1 angiotensin II receptor (AT1) in vascular smooth muscle and adrenal gland tissue, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone-mediated effects, resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure[5]. The combination offers additive or synergistic antihypertensive effects by targeting different mechanisms involved in blood pressure regulation. This combination may be used when monotherapy does not achieve adequate control of hypertension[6]. The indapamide + losartan combination is not widely available as a single branded product but may be prescribed as separate tablets taken together. It has demonstrated efficacy for lowering blood pressure in patients with hypertension uncontrolled by standard doses of monotherapy[6]. No specific developer or manufacturer for a fixed-dose product could be identified from current sources.
