A macrophage-targeted fluorescent imaging agent composed of **indocyanine green** (ICG), a near-infrared fluorophore, conjugated to **neomannosyl human serum albumin** (MSA), a recombinant human serum albumin modified with neomannose. This combination is developed principally for **sentinel lymph node (SLN) mapping** during oncologic surgery by targeting macrophage mannose receptors, facilitating precise intraoperative visualization with near-infrared fluorescence. The mechanism leverages ICG’s fluorescence, while the neomannosyl modification increases uptake in SLNs by targeting macrophage-rich regions, thus enhancing the signal-to-background ratio[5]. The agent has been studied for potential use in esophageal cancer and aims to overcome limitations of free ICG, such as rapid diffusion and lower selectivity.
