This is a combination diagnostic agent consisting of indocyanine green (ICG), a fluorescent dye, and technetium-99m (99mTc), a radiopharmaceutical. The combination is primarily used for sentinel lymph node mapping in cancer surgeries such as breast cancer, melanoma, cervical cancer, and endometrial cancer. Indocyanine green enables near-infrared fluorescence imaging to visualize lymphatic drainage pathways intraoperatively. Technetium-99m acts as a gamma-emitting radiotracer that allows preoperative lymphoscintigraphy and intraoperative detection with a gamma probe. The dual-agent approach leverages the complementary strengths of both tracers—fluorescence for real-time visualization and radioactivity for sensitive detection—to improve the accuracy of sentinel lymph node identification.
