Overview

Indomethacin + omega-3 fatty acids is a combination therapy consisting of indomethacin, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and omega-3 fatty acids, typically eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). Indomethacin acts primarily by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis, which leads to decreased inflammation, pain, and fever. Omega-3 fatty acids possess anti-inflammatory properties through modulation of eicosanoid production and incorporation into cell membranes. This combination has been studied in the management of rheumatoid arthritis, where it demonstrated improved reduction in disease activity compared to indomethacin alone. The addition of omega-3s may also allow for NSAID-sparing effects while maintaining efficacy[1][2]. Both components are generally well-tolerated when used together.
