Overview

Infanrix Hexa + Prevenar refers to the concomitant administration of two distinct pediatric vaccines: Infanrix Hexa, a hexavalent vaccine developed by GSK, and Prevenar (also known as Prevnar), a 7-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV7) developed by Wyeth (now a subsidiary of Pfizer). Infanrix Hexa provides active immunization against diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, hepatitis B, poliomyelitis, and invasive disease caused by Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib). Prevenar targets seven serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae (4, 6B, 9V, 14, 18C, 19F, and 23F) to prevent invasive pneumococcal disease, pneumonia, and otitis media. The combination is frequently administered together in infant primary vaccination schedules. Clinical research, such as Phase IV studies sponsored by Pfizer/Wyeth, has investigated the safety profile of this co-administration, specifically focusing on the incidence of febrile reactions and the efficacy of prophylactic antipyretics.
