Overview

Infanrix-Hib + Poliorix is a combination vaccine regimen developed by GSK for the prevention of diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, poliomyelitis, and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) infection. The regimen involves the co-administration of Infanrix-Hib, which contains diphtheria and tetanus toxoids, acellular pertussis antigens (pertussis toxoid, filamentous hemagglutinin, and pertactin), and Hib capsular polysaccharide conjugated to tetanus toxoid, with Poliorix, an inactivated poliovirus vaccine (IPV) containing types 1, 2, and 3. This combination is used to simplify the immunization schedule for infants and toddlers, providing broad protection against five significant childhood diseases. The vaccine works by inducing active immunity, stimulating the production of specific antibodies against the toxins and surface antigens of the respective pathogens. In certain clinical contexts, such as trials in China, this co-administration regimen has been evaluated for safety and immunogenicity as a booster dose in toddlers previously primed with similar multi-component vaccines.
