The nonadjuvanted influenza A (H1N1) vaccine is a monovalent, inactivated vaccine developed to provide protection against the 2009 pandemic H1N1 influenza virus. Unlike adjuvanted versions (which contain substances like MF59 or AS03 to boost immune response), this formulation relies solely on the viral antigens, typically 15 μg of hemagglutinin (HA) per dose. It was produced by several manufacturers, including CSL, Novartis, and GSK, using either split-virus or surface antigen technologies derived from the A/California/7/2009 (H1N1) strain. The vaccine works by stimulating the production of neutralizing antibodies against the HA protein, preventing viral entry into host cells. It was widely used during the 2009-2010 pandemic, particularly in populations where adjuvants were avoided or where a standard immune response was sufficient.
