Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Influenza A (H5N1) Virus Monovalent Vaccine, Adjuvanted is a pandemic influenza vaccine developed by GSK for the prevention of disease caused by the H5N1 subtype of avian influenza. The vaccine is composed of monovalent, inactivated, split A/H5N1 influenza virus antigen combined with GSK's proprietary AS03 adjuvant system, which is an oil-in-water emulsion containing alpha-tocopherol and squalene. It works by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against the viral hemagglutinin protein, providing protection against highly pathogenic avian influenza. It received U.S. FDA approval in 2013 for use in individuals 6 months and older at increased risk of exposure, and is also known by the brand names Pumarix in Europe and Arepanrix H5N1 in Canada.
