Drug intelligence / Profile preview
This is a live-attenuated influenza vaccine (LAIV) candidate developed by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to prevent avian influenza H7N7 infection. The vaccine is a 6:2 reassortant virus, containing the hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA) genes from the highly pathogenic avian influenza A/Netherlands/219/03 (H7N7) strain and the six internal protein genes from the cold-adapted (ca) A/Ann Arbor/6/60 (H2N2) master donor virus. It is designed to be administered intranasally to induce mucosal and systemic immunity, mimicking natural infection while remaining attenuated and temperature-sensitive. The vaccine was evaluated in Phase 1 clinical trials for safety and immunogenicity in healthy adults as part of pandemic preparedness efforts.
