Overview

influenza mRNA-LNP vaccine (5xM2e) is a preclinical mRNA-based vaccine candidate developed by Georgia State University. It consists of a lipid nanoparticle (LNP)-encapsulated messenger RNA (mRNA) encoding a tandem repeat of five conserved ectodomains of the matrix protein 2 (5xM2e) derived from human, swine, and avian influenza A viruses. The vaccine is designed to elicit broad, cross-protective immunity against diverse influenza A virus subtypes (such as H1, H3, and H5) by targeting the highly conserved M2e region. In preclinical studies, it has been shown to induce robust M2e-specific IgG antibodies, T-cell responses, and acute innate immune recruitment, and it can be co-administered with conventional seasonal split or protein-based influenza vaccines to significantly enhance their immunogenicity and protective efficacy.
