Overview

Recombinant influenza vaccine containing purified recombinant hemagglutinin (HA) proteins from selected strains of influenza A and B viruses. The HA proteins are produced using an insect cell culture system with baculovirus vectors. This vaccine is designed to stimulate active immunity against the specific strains included in the formulation for each flu season. Unlike traditional egg-based vaccines, it does not use live virus or eggs in its production process. The primary mechanism of action is induction of neutralizing antibodies targeting the viral hemagglutinin protein, thereby preventing infection by blocking viral entry into host cells. Developed initially by Protein Sciences Corporation and now manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur under the brand name Flublok, this product is approved for prevention of seasonal influenza in adults[1][2][5][6].
