Overview

Influenza vaccine (quadrivalent, high-dose), marketed as Fluzone High-Dose Quadrivalent, is an inactivated vaccine indicated for active immunization to prevent influenza disease caused by influenza A subtype viruses and type B viruses contained in the vaccine. It is formulated specifically for persons aged 65 years and older, containing four times the antigen content of standard-dose flu vaccines. The vaccine stimulates the immune system to produce antibodies against the hemagglutinin surface antigens of the selected influenza virus strains, providing heightened protection for older adults, who are at greater risk of severe influenza and its complications. The inactivated split-virus vaccine is derived from influenza viruses grown in embryonated chicken eggs and then inactivated and purified. The quadrivalent formulation includes an additional B strain compared to previous trivalent high-dose versions to broaden protection.[1][3][5]
