Overview

MF59C-adjuvanted quadrivalent influenza vaccine (aQIV) is an inactivated, surface antigen influenza vaccine designed to provide enhanced protection against seasonal influenza, particularly in older adults aged 65 and over. It contains hemagglutinin and neuraminidase from four influenza strains, including two Influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two Influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata). The vaccine's defining feature is the MF59 adjuvant, a squalene-based oil-in-water emulsion that recruits antigen-presenting cells to the injection site and promotes a broader, more robust immune response compared to non-adjuvanted vaccines. Developed by Seqirus (a CSL company), it specifically addresses the immunosenescence-related decline in vaccine efficacy in the elderly population.
