Overview

Influenza virus vaccine, quadrivalent (high-dose) is an inactivated, split-virion vaccine developed by Sanofi Pasteur for the prevention of influenza in adults aged 65 and older. Marketed as Fluzone High-Dose Quadrivalent and Efluelda, it contains four times the hemagglutinin (HA) antigen content (60 µg per strain, 240 µg total) compared to standard-dose vaccines. This increased antigen load is designed to elicit a more robust immune response in the elderly, who typically experience age-related immunosenescence. The vaccine targets two influenza A subtypes (H1N1 and H3N2) and two influenza B lineages (Victoria and Yamagata), specifically inducing antibodies against the viral surface glycoproteins hemagglutinin and neuraminidase.
