Drug intelligence / Profile preview
INFUSE Bone Graft is a drug-device combination product consisting of recombinant human Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2 (rhBMP-2), also known as dibotermin alfa, and an absorbable collagen sponge (ACS) carrier derived from bovine Type I collagen. The rhBMP-2 component is a potent osteoinductive cytokine that binds to BMP receptors on the surface of mesenchymal stem cells, triggering a signaling cascade that promotes their differentiation into bone-forming osteoblasts. In spinal applications, the rhBMP-2/ACS is placed inside a metallic interbody fusion device, such as the INTER FIX threaded cage, and implanted into the disc space. This system is indicated for the treatment of degenerative disc disease (DDD) to facilitate spinal fusion, providing an alternative to autologous bone harvesting (autograft) and thereby reducing donor-site morbidity.
