Drug intelligence / Profile preview
INFUSE Bone Graft + INTER FIX is a combination product consisting of a biologic component (recombinant human Bone Morphogenetic Protein-2 [rhBMP-2] applied to an absorbable collagen sponge [ACS]) and a titanium interbody fusion device (INTER FIX). Developed by Medtronic Spinal and Biologics, it is designed for use in spinal fusion procedures, specifically posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) in patients with degenerative disc disease. The rhBMP-2 acts as an osteoinductive growth factor that binds to bone morphogenetic protein receptors on mesenchymal stem cells and osteoprogenitor cells, stimulating their differentiation into osteoblasts to promote new bone formation. The INTER FIX device provides structural stability and a space for the bone graft to facilitate fusion, eliminating the need for autologous bone graft harvesting from the patient's iliac crest.
