injectable platelet-rich fibrin + hyaluronic acid is an autologous combination therapy being investigated for the treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) internal derangement. The therapy consists of injectable platelet-rich fibrin (i-PRF), a second-generation platelet concentrate prepared from the patient's own blood without anticoagulants, and hyaluronic acid (HA), a viscosupplement (specifically Hyalgan in the Suez Canal University trial). i-PRF provides a reservoir of growth factors, including platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), which promote tissue regeneration, angiogenesis, and exert anti-inflammatory effects. Hyaluronic acid acts as a lubricant within the joint, improving mobility and reducing mechanical friction. This combination is typically administered via intra-articular injection following arthrocentesis to alleviate pain and restore joint function in patients with TMJ internal derangement.
