This is a combination of two drugs, insulin and levothyroxine. Insulin is a peptide hormone used to regulate blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus by promoting cellular uptake of glucose, inhibiting hepatic glucose production, and modulating fat and protein metabolism. Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4), used as replacement therapy in hypothyroidism to restore normal metabolic activity by supplementing deficient endogenous thyroid hormone levels. There are no known fixed-dose combination products containing both insulin and levothyroxine; they are typically prescribed separately for comorbid diabetes mellitus and hypothyroidism. Both drugs have distinct mechanisms of action—insulin acts on the insulin receptor to facilitate glucose uptake, while levothyroxine acts as an agonist at nuclear thyroid hormone receptors to regulate gene expression involved in metabolism[1][3][7]. Coadministration may require dose adjustments due to potential pharmacodynamic interactions affecting glycemic control[5].
