Overview

A combination therapy approach using both insulin and sulfonylurea medications to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus. Sulfonylureas stimulate insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells by blocking ATP-sensitive potassium channels, while exogenous insulin supplements the body's natural insulin. This combination provides complementary mechanisms to improve glycemic control when monotherapy is insufficient. The combination carries an increased risk of hypoglycemia and requires careful monitoring.
