Overview

Insulin aspart + insulin aspart protamine is a fixed-ratio combination of two human insulin analogs used to improve glycemic control in adults with diabetes mellitus (type 1 or type 2)[3][5]. It contains rapid-acting insulin aspart and intermediate-acting insulin aspart protamine. The rapid component provides quick onset of action, while the intermediate component extends the duration of effect, allowing for both prandial and basal glucose control[1][2][4]. The mechanism of action involves lowering blood glucose by stimulating peripheral glucose uptake (especially by skeletal muscle and fat) and inhibiting hepatic glucose production. This combination is typically administered subcutaneously twice daily, covering meals or snacks[5]. Developed by Novo Nordisk, it is marketed under several brand names including NovoLog Mix 70/30.
