insulin aspart + insulin degludec

A basal-bolus insulin regimen consisting of insulin degludec, a long-acting basal insulin analogue, and insulin aspart, a rapid-acting mealtime insulin analogue. This specific combination was evaluated in the HypoDeg trial, an investigator-initiated study by Nordsjaellands Hospital, to treat patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus who are at high risk for nocturnal severe hypoglycemia. Insulin degludec provides a stable, long-acting glucose-lowering effect with a duration of action exceeding 42 hours, while insulin aspart provides rapid postprandial glucose control. The regimen demonstrated a significant reduction in nocturnal symptomatic and severe hypoglycemia compared to a regimen of insulin glargine and insulin aspart.
