Insulin aspart + insulin detemir is a combination of two recombinant human insulin analogues used to manage blood glucose in patients with diabetes mellitus. Insulin aspart is a rapid-acting insulin analogue that begins working within 15 minutes, peaks at about 1 hour, and lasts for 2 to 4 hours. It is typically administered before meals to control postprandial blood sugar spikes. Insulin detemir is a long-acting basal insulin analogue that provides steady glucose-lowering activity for up to 24 hours and helps maintain baseline glycemic control between meals and overnight. Both insulins act by binding to the human insulin receptor, stimulating cellular uptake of glucose from the bloodstream into tissues such as muscle and fat while inhibiting hepatic glucose production. This combination mimics physiological endogenous insulin secretion patterns—rapid-acting for mealtime coverage (aspart) and long-acting for basal needs (detemir). Both are produced using recombinant DNA technology in yeast cells[2][3][5].
