Overview

This combination therapy consists of insulin aspart, a rapid-acting insulin analog, and isophane insulin (NPH), an intermediate-acting human insulin. Insulin aspart is designed to rapidly lower blood glucose levels following administration by mimicking the postprandial insulin spike, while isophane insulin provides a more prolonged effect to maintain basal glucose control. In the context of the TIP (Insulin for Impaired Glucose Tolerance in Pregnancy) study conducted by Region Örebro County, this combination is utilized to treat pregnant women with impaired glucose tolerance who are close to normoglycemia. The therapeutic goal is to reduce fetal birth weight and neonatal morbidity by achieving tight glycemic control through a regimen that addresses both basal and prandial insulin requirements.
