Glaritus is a biosimilar version of insulin glargine, a long-acting basal insulin analogue used to improve glycemic control in adults and pediatric patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus and adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Developed by Wockhardt, it is produced using recombinant DNA technology in *Escherichia coli*. The molecule differs from human insulin by the substitution of glycine for asparagine at position A21 and the addition of two arginines at the C-terminus of the B-chain. These modifications result in a shift of the isoelectric point toward neutrality, leading to the formation of micro-precipitates upon subcutaneous injection. This allows for a slow, consistent release of insulin into the bloodstream over approximately 24 hours without a pronounced peak, effectively mimicking physiological basal insulin secretion.
