insulin glargine + sitagliptin

Insulin glargine + sitagliptin is a combination regimen of two pharmaceutical drugs used in the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. Insulin glargine is a long-acting human insulin analog that provides a steady, basal level of insulin to decrease blood glucose. Sitagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor that increases insulin secretion and decreases glucagon secretion in a glucose-dependent manner by prolonging the activity of incretin hormones. The combination is used to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes, particularly when previous oral therapies alone are insufficient. Studies demonstrate that combining these agents improves HbA1c and glycemic profiles with lower risk of hypoglycemia compared to some premixed insulins. There is no evidence that this combination is available as a single fixed-dose pharmaceutical product; use is by co-administration of the two agents.
