Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Insulin icodec + semaglutide (development name IcoSema) is a once-weekly, fixed-ratio combination injection developed by Novo Nordisk for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults. It is a biologic composed of two peptide components: insulin icodec, a long-acting basal insulin analogue, and semaglutide, a glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist. By combining these two agents, the drug targets both the insulin receptor and the GLP-1 receptor to regulate glucose metabolism, stimulate glucose-dependent insulin secretion, and suppress glucagon release. This combination provides superior glycemic control and weight benefits with a lower risk of hypoglycemia compared to daily basal insulin regimens. It was approved in the European Union under the brand name Kyinsu in November 2025, and in China under the brand name Nuohejie (诺和杰) in March 2026. In October 2026, China's NMPA approved an expanded indication for adults whose blood glucose is inadequately controlled on oral antidiabetic drugs, marking a world-first approval for this specific indication.
