Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Insulin lispro + insulin lispro protamine is a fixed-ratio combination of two human insulin analogs used to improve glycemic control in adults with diabetes mellitus (type 1 and type 2). Insulin lispro is a rapid-acting insulin analog that quickly lowers blood glucose after injection. Insulin lispro protamine is an intermediate-acting form created by complexing the rapid-acting analog with protamine to slow its absorption and prolong its effect. The combination provides both prandial (mealtime) and basal (background) glucose control in a single injection. It typically starts working within 10–20 minutes after subcutaneous administration, peaks at about two hours, and has effects lasting up to approximately 22–24 hours[1][3][6]. The product is available in different ratios (e.g., "Mix75/25" contains 75% intermediate-acting [lispro protamine] and 25% rapid-acting [lispro]; "Mix50/50" contains equal parts of each)[6]. Developed by Eli Lilly[6], it should be administered shortly before meals.
