Overview

interferon alfa-2a + influenza vaccine trivalent inactivated is a combination therapy investigated by the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center to improve the efficacy of seasonal influenza vaccination in patients with Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL). The regimen involves the co-administration of a licensed trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine (TIV) with recombinant interferon alfa-2a, either in its standard form (Roferon-A) or its pegylated form (Pegasys). Interferon alfa-2a serves as a cytokine adjuvant that binds to the interferon alpha/beta receptors (IFNAR1 and IFNAR2), stimulating the innate and adaptive immune systems to produce a more robust antibody response against the influenza virus hemagglutinin antigens, which is typically diminished in CLL patients due to their underlying malignancy.
