Overview

Interferon alfa-5 + interferon alfa-2b is a combination of two type I human recombinant alpha-interferons. Interferons are cytokines with immunomodulatory, antiviral, and antiproliferative properties. Interferon alfa-2b is widely used for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B and C infections, certain cancers (such as hairy cell leukemia, malignant melanoma, follicular lymphoma), AIDS-related Kaposi's sarcoma, and genital warts[1][3][5]. Its mechanism of action involves binding to the interferon alpha/beta receptor complex (IFNAR1/IFNAR2) on cell surfaces to activate the JAK/STAT signaling pathway. This leads to modulation of immune responses and induction of genes that inhibit viral replication and tumor growth[3][6][8]. The specific role or clinical use for combining interferon alfa-5 with interferon alfa-2b is not well established in standard practice; most clinical data pertain to individual subtypes such as alpha 2a or 2b.
