interferon-gamma + anidulafungin is a combination therapy investigated for the treatment of candidemia, a systemic fungal infection. This regimen combines the immunomodulatory effects of recombinant interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) with the direct antifungal activity of anidulafungin. IFN-γ is a cytokine that enhances the host's innate and adaptive immune responses, specifically by activating macrophages and increasing the production of reactive oxygen species to facilitate fungal clearance. Anidulafungin is an echinocandin antifungal that inhibits 1,3-beta-D-glucan synthase, an enzyme essential for synthesizing the fungal cell wall component 1,3-beta-D-glucan. By combining these two agents, the therapy aims to both weaken the pathogen and bolster the patient's immune defenses. This combination was notably evaluated in a Phase 2 pilot study (NCT01444820) led by Radboud University Medical Center.
