This is a combination therapy consisting of three agents: - **Interleukin-11 (IL-11, oprelvekin):** A recombinant cytokine that stimulates the proliferation and maturation of megakaryocytes, leading to increased platelet production. It acts as an agonist at the interleukin-11 receptor subunit alpha and is primarily used for the prevention of severe thrombocytopenia following myelosuppressive chemotherapy in patients with nonmyeloid malignancies[1][2][3][5]. - **Methylprednisolone:** A synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid with potent anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive properties. It reduces inflammation by binding to glucocorticoid receptors, suppressing immune responses, and inhibiting multiple inflammatory mediators[6][9][10]. - **Prednisone:** Another synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid similar in action to methylprednisolone but slightly less potent. It also binds to glucocorticoid receptors, reducing inflammation and immune activity[6][9][10]. The combination may be considered for synergistic effects in conditions where both stimulation of platelet production (via IL-11) and suppression of inflammation or immune response (via corticosteroids) are desired.
