Interleukin-15-activated CD56+ cells is an investigational adoptive cell-based immunotherapy consisting of donor-derived natural killer (NK) and natural killer T (NKT) cells. The therapy involves the isolation of CD56+ cells from non-mobilized donors, followed by ex vivo activation through overnight incubation with the cytokine interleukin-15 (IL-15). This activation process is designed to enhance the cells' cytotoxic potential, increase the expression of activating receptors, and improve their anti-leukemic immune response. Primarily developed for the treatment of high-risk acute myeloid leukemia (AML) in patients who have undergone allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT), the therapy aims to provide a potent graft-versus-leukemia effect to reduce the risk of relapse while maintaining a favorable safety profile.
